With the aim of promoting financial inclusion in Morocco, start-up Joro Cash is developing a mobile money solution accessible to all. Supported by a simple application and a network of local agents, it aims to transform everyday practices and facilitate access to essential financial services.
After spending several years in France, Malik Qadiri returned to his native Morocco, where he observed a massive dependence on cash for everyday transactions, and still limited access to digital technology.
Inspired by African models such as M-Pesa in Kenya and Wave in Senegal, he decided to tackle this problem by developing a mobile money solution tailored to the Moroccan context. And so Joro Cash was born.
A local solution to a systemic problem
Joro Cash is based on a network of local agents and an intuitive mobile application. The aim is clear: to enable every citizen, even those without traditional banking access, to open an account with a RIB, deposit or withdraw money, send money or pay bills with ease.
To reinforce its impact, Joro Cash has entered into a partnership with a Moroccan bank, CIH Bank, and its payment institution Lana Cash. Today, the solution is being tested in three cities, to gather feedback from the field.
While national deployment is the current priority, in the medium term Joro Cash is also targeting Moroccans living abroad (MREs), sources of major financial flows, as well as tourists looking for reliable, simplified payment solutions.
A project with impact and economic viability
Joro Cash is proud of its impact positioning. Its mission: to promote the financial inclusion of millions of Moroccans. But the team rejects the classic opposition between impact and profitability. On the contrary, it believes that one reinforces the other. " Impact is only sustainable if the business model is too," asserts the founder.
With its user-centric approach, solid business model and clear ambition, the start-up intends to play a leading role in transforming financial practices in Morocco.
Joro Cash is one of the three winners of the first promotion of yprlink, a challenge to accelerate the growth of start-ups in Africa. Yprlink is proposed by LAfricaMobile and Possible.Africa with the support of H7.
